Facebook is an online social networking service which was launched on February 4th, 2004 by Mark Zucherberg and friends at Harvard University.
b.) Content:
This social media website allows users to create a user profile, add users as friends, exchange messages, post status updates and photos, share videos and receive notifications when others update their profiles. Games can also be played within this app.
c.) Target audience:
Initially, this social media website had limited membership for only Harvard students however, the later expanded this to colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy league and Stanford University. Since 2006, anyone who is at least 13 years old is allowed to become a registered user on the Website however, facebook is mainly used by the general public in which, most of which are either students or business workers in order to keep in contact with friends and family.
d.) Sources of Revenue:
Most of Facebooks revenue comes from advertising and according to businessweek.com, banner advertisements in Facebook has received one fifth the number of clicks compared to the web as a whole. In february 2012, Facebook started selling stock to the public and three months later, facebook has a market capitalisation of $104 billion. It was said in February 20145, that facebooks market capitalisation is worth $212 billion.

Instagram was Created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and was launched in october 2010 as a free mobile app. The service rapidly gained popularity with over 100 million active users as of April 2012 and 300 million as of December 2012.
